Waiting for Santa

After we read John Fisher’s letter to Santa, we realized his expectations for Christmas were high. So we told him Santa got him something epic from his list. John is so excited in anticipation of his gift that he’s decided to sleep under the tree for the rest of the year.

Nobody tell him he’s getting the complete collection of John Tesh Christmas music. Take a listen…

It’s Our Nature

A couple months back Sockeye launched a campaign very near and dear to our hearts: “It’s Our Nature.” It’s about the Metro Natural Areas Program. This program stemmed from a voter approved bond measure to protect the natural areas around the Portland Metropolitan region. To date, they’ve protected 11,000 acres, 90 miles of river and stream, over 26 species, water and air quality, and opened 3 major nature parks. Not too shabby. As our nature goes so does our well-being. It’s nice to know someone is protecting it.

The initial strategy was simple, get the word out about the strides Metro had been making and thank the voters for their continued support. As we became involved messaging strategy evolved to be more than simply thanking the
voters. It became apparent that the messaging strategy needed to touch on the reasons Oregonians had voted for these bond measures in the first place: speak to how protecting nature protects us. Every piece of messaging needed to portray this idea. From inserting plantable paper with Black-Eyed Susan flower seeds in Portland Monthly to printing on organic T-Shirts to opting out of putting our messaging on carbon-emitting busses, every choice was made with the voter’s dollar, nature conservancy and our message of protecting nature in mind.

In the end, what we created was a well-rounded campaign filled with compelling visuals, emotional copy and thoughtful media placements. We spoke directly to the voter’s heart and mind, armed voters with stats about Metro’s progress, invited them to experience the natural areas (both online and in person), and thanked them for making it all possible.

Make sure to watch the video (here). Check out the map here and a couple pieces of the campaign below.

Ruby Client Gift – Spreading the Word

Ruby Receptionists is one of our most dear clients. The people, culture and business model they have established helps us to do very playful, inventive work. If you keep up on this blog you’ll know we’ve praised them on multiple occasions.

Ruby pulls out all the stops for their clients, so why shouldn’t we do the same? We designed a custom-made, “Ruby-styled” set of Moleskines, complete with belly band and packaging as gifts for their multi-year clients. So imagine our surprise when we saw a blog entry about these gifts.

Special thanks goes out to Courtney at Seamless Creative for giving us a nod on their blog Design Work Life. Thanks Friend.

Wait until you see what we have in store for next year!

Big Ups for Maria Janosko!

Our very own Maria Janosko was named one of the Top 25 women designers by GOOD. (If keeping you in stitches while designing kick-ass creative was taken into consideration we’re pretty sure Maria would have been all alone at the top.)

YOU ROCK MARIA! CONGRATULATIONS!

You can check out the entire list here. Maria’s is slide 19, or just check it out below…

But if you want to see the real goods that comprise the awesomeness that is the “Maria Janosko Experience” check out her site here. You can also come by the Sockeye office to meet her in person (she likes Nutter Butter cookies).

Our hats off to The Nines

Portlanders know that The Nines is a swanky hotel in the heart of downtown. Well, it appears that we’re not the only ones to herald the hospitality, elegance and amenities The Nines offers it’s guests. Expedia recently named The Nines one of the Top 10 hotels in the WORLD!

Yes, in THE WORLD!

There’s some pretty elite company on that list. Kudos to our friends at The Nines and Sage Hospitality.

If you want to read a bit about our relationship with The Nines (yes, we named them and more…) you can check out the story on our site.
